A spotlight on the work of the Group Trustees

22 August 2024

In this article, we look into the more detailed work of the Group Trustees through their committees, sub-committees and working groups.

We have 12 full board Group Trustee meetings a year with some of those meetings particularly focusing on rules and administration and investment. But we also have committees, sub-committees, and working group meetings which include a smaller number of Group Trustees to focus on specific areas. These ultimately report into the full board which includes all Group Trustees, who make high-level decisions and give strategic direction to the RWE Group, guided by their legal, actuarial, investment and administration advisers.

Some of the most active committee, sub-committee and working group meetings are the:

Risk Sub-Committee

When: Every other month

Why: To identify, monitor and review risks to the RWE Group.

Defined Benefit Administration Sub-Committee

When: Quarterly

Why: To review administration services and address in detail issues arising from the administration of the RWE Group.

Investment Implementation Committee

When: On an ad-hoc basis

Why: To support the work undertaken at the investment meetings, working with the investment consultant to implement strategic decisions; assess market opportunities and facilitate arrangements for new investments and disinvestments.

Member Communications Sub-Committee

When: Every other month

Why: Responsible for developing a clear communications strategy and objectives, helping to implement this with support from communications advisers. The Pensions Plus editorial team is a subset of this sub-committee and is responsible for editing the publication.

Adviser Review Working Group

When: On an ad-hoc basis

Why: To review the appointment of advisers when due.

Join the Group Trustees

Look out for further information later this year when we start the process of inviting pensioners and contributing members to put themselves forward to join our trustee board as a Member Nominated Trustee.

This will be to fill vacancies when the terms of office of three of our current Member Nominated Trustees come to an end in October 2025. They also may choose to stand for re-election.

We've included a list of current Trustees on the About page.
